Only Fooling Yourself FINAL VERSION

Okay, after many hours of poring over my newly acquired logic software, here it is - the same song I posted before. I know what you’re thinking, jeez, couldn’t he write a new flipping song for a change?! but pleeease listen to it and tell me what you think. The production makes a big difference and the drums on the first one are pretty dopey by comparison. Seriously, I would like any and all feedback, anything - do you like it? Is it better/worse than the earlier version? What does it make you think of? Is one part too loud? Is this something that I should continue to spend this much freaking time doing??? I mean, I’m going to keep doing it anyway, but some honest objective criticism would be appreciated :)

(1/20 update) Mike Weiser just sent me his remixed version of the song, which he has posted on his website. You can listen to it here

I like it more this way with the drums starting right in the beginning! And they do sound better! The new cello melody is great too! the one thing I didn’t like was that very last last synth effect at the end of the song…I liked more the simpler end it had before, but that’s the only thing, the song is great! Your voice sounds much better too! And it’s so cool that you’re putting up sheet music! Keep going!! I just saw you’ll be on the radio again, good luck with that! I’ll be at school at that time but I’ll try to record it…

Thanks so much Miguel - I will definitely keep going. I think I agree with you about the ending, maybe when it goes onto a cd I’ll change it. Good luck going back to school!

I’m at work with no work to do, so I just listened way too many times to all three recordings of this song.
First, I actually like the beginning/intro thing without the drums at all.. liiiike, neither of your real recorded versions, but the way it was recorded in concert. The overall sound is obviously much better in the newest production, but I think the keyboard part is kind of unnecessary except in the chorus, which sounds really full and excellent in the latest. The verses though, are much clearer and easier to listen to in that earlier recording without the keyboard. And finally, that popsynth thing at the end - it sounds excellent contrasted with the cello, but I think you need to write/find a new song in which to experiment with that. I think you probably knew that already though.
Basically, I want to copy/paste the beginning from the the live (the living room) show, the chorus’ from the newest recording, and everything else from the old recording.
    Quit work and make music!

You know, I think you might be right. It would be kind of cool to make it build towards the chorus by holding out on the piano at first. It’s good to know that the recorded version isn’t vastly superior to the live one, or vice versa. I’ll remix it, and see how it sounds. Mixing is really the hardest part to get right in such a limited amount of time, but these suggestions are really helpful in giving me perspective, so thanks!
